Colormap Editor

The Custom Colormap Editor creates and edits a 50-position RGB lookup table (LUT) for image display.

Idcubepro 2026 — Custom Colormap Editor

Overview

The Custom Colormap Editor creates and edits a 50-position RGB lookup table (LUT) for image display.

The row of 50 color boxes represents the complete lookup table from the first LUT position to the last.

Click any color box to choose a new RGB color for that LUT position.

Choose a color for one LUT position, then choose a color for a second position. IDCubePro interpolates a smooth RGB gradient between them.

Apply sends the current LUT to the target image display and stores it for Modern IDCubePro when applicable.

Applying a LUT changes display colors only; it does not modify the underlying hyperspectral data values.

Save LUT stores the current lookup table in a MAT file using both LUT and LUT_to_save variable names for compatibility.

Load LUT opens a MAT file containing LUT or LUT_to_save. The LUT is validated and resized to the 50 positions used by the editor.

Clear Colors fills all LUT positions with the current IDCubePro layer/theme color, providing a neutral starting point for a new palette.

Reset Gray restores a standard 50-level grayscale colormap.

LUT colors are stored as normalized RGB triplets from 0 to 1. Loaded 0-to-255 RGB values are converted automatically.

1. Open the Custom Colormap Editor.

2. Choose colors for one or more LUT positions.

3. Use two selected positions to create gradients.

4. Click Apply to view the LUT on the image.

5. Save the LUT if you want to reuse it later.

A LUT remaps displayed intensities to colors. It does not change image intensity values, spectra, wavelengths, calibration, or metadata.

For quantitative interpretation, rely on numerical data and appropriate analysis rather than color appearance alone.

For figures and presentations, consider palettes with adequate luminance contrast and color combinations that remain interpretable for common forms of color-vision deficiency.
