Imports image data stored in FITS format and converts it into an 2-D FITS image -> converted to a one-band IDCube dataset.
3-D FITS image -> imported as a multiband cube.
FITS metadata are preserved using MATLAB fitsinfo when that information IDCubePro assigns band indices 1:N rather than automatically interpreting FITS WCS or spectral-coordinate header keywords.
FITS files can encode wavelength, frequency, velocity, or other physical axes using different conventions. The generic importer does not assume a specific spectral convention.
Workflow
1. Choose Import FITS Dataset.
2. IDCubePro reads the image and available metadata.
3. Inspect image dimensions and band count.
4. Review FITS metadata when physical-axis interpretation is required.
Band indices must not automatically be interpreted as physical wavelength.
