Overview

The Function Browser provides a central way to explore and launch IDCubePro analysis functions without having to remember where every command is located. The Favorites list offers faster access to tools you use regularly.

New to hyperspectral imaging? Start here. You can browse available functions, use the Beginner filter to narrow the choices, and save the tools you learn first. As you gain experience, switch to All or Advanced to explore more capabilities.
01Discover

Search the function catalog and browse analysis categories.

02Learn progressively

Explore beginner-oriented functions before moving to advanced workflows.

03Personalize

Keep frequently used functions in Favorites for easier repeat access.

Recommended first steps for beginners

  1. Load an example dataset. Open a hyperspectral image so tools that require active data have an input.
  2. Open the Function Browser. Use the application's Function Browser / Favorites control to see available tools.
  3. Select Beginner. Where the level filter is available, choose Beginner instead of All or Advanced to focus on introductory tools.
  4. Search or browse by category. Try terms such as spectrum, RGB, colormap, or PCA. Choose a tool appropriate to your loaded data.
  5. Launch a function. Select the desired tool and choose Run Selected, or double-click its entry where supported.
  6. Add useful tools to Favorites. Save functions you expect to use again. Return to the Favorites list instead of navigating the entire catalog.
  7. Build your own workflow. Begin with visualization and spectral extraction, then explore processing, quantitative analysis, and other advanced functions as needed.

Exact button labels and available tools may differ slightly across IDCubePro 2026 builds.

Example beginner workflow

A useful first session could follow this progression:

  1. Open a hyperspectral dataset and inspect its dimensions.
  2. Display a single band or an RGB composite.
  3. Extract a spectrum from a pixel or region of interest (ROI).
  4. Use Favorites to return quickly to the tools used in these steps.
  5. When comfortable, explore PCA, spectral similarity, or additional processing tools.

For illustrated documentation of the analysis, see Processing History & Tutorial Recorder. The Function Browser helps you find and run tools; the Tutorial Recorder is a separate feature for documenting supported operations.

Helpful tips

Do I need to understand every toolbox before starting?

No. The Beginner level is a practical entry point. Start with basic visualization and spectrum extraction, then expand your Favorites as you learn.

Why does a selected function not run?

Some tools require a loaded datacube, a specific dataset type, or a completed preliminary operation. Check the tool's individual documentation and confirm that a compatible dataset is open.

Can I change my Favorites?

Yes. Add frequently used tools and remove those no longer needed. Where enabled, your saved list is restored in subsequent sessions.

Is Beginner a different software edition?

No. Beginner and Advanced are ways to filter and discover functions in the browser; they are not license editions. Available tools may still depend on your IDCubePro installation and license.
