Reference Correction
Reference Correction adjusts the hyperspectral cube using white and/or dark reference measurements.
Overview
Reference Correction adjusts the hyperspectral cube using white and/or dark reference measurements.
The original dataset remains preserved in myDataOriginal. Corrections are applied to the current working dataset in myData.
White correction divides the original sample spectrum by the mean white-reference spectrum.
Dark correction subtracts the mean dark-reference spectrum from the original sample.
White + Dark applies the standard reflectance-style correction:
Corrected = (Sample - Dark) / (White - Dark)
This is usually the preferred option when both valid white and dark references are available.
Reference files must be MATLAB MAT files containing a 3D hyperspectral cube.
IDCubePro accepts common forms such as Image, Images, a structure containing Images, or another identifiable 3D numeric cube.
The reference cube is reduced to a mean spectrum by averaging across its spatial dimensions.
The reference cube must contain the same number of spectral bands as the original hyperspectral dataset.
When wavelength vectors are available, IDCubePro also checks their correspondence and reports a warning when the wavelength difference is large.
Restore Original returns myData to the uncorrected myDataOriginal dataset.
This is safer than attempting to mathematically reverse a correction.
Important
Reference correction is physically meaningful only when the white/dark references were acquired under conditions compatible with the sample measurement.
Detector settings, exposure, gain, wavelength calibration, illumination geometry, and acquisition configuration should be consistent whenever possible.
Near-zero denominators in white/dark correction can create unstable values. IDCubePro protects against exact division by zero, but poor references can still produce unreliable corrected spectra.
1. Load the hyperspectral sample dataset.
2. Open Correct / Filtering & Enhancement.
3. Open Reference Correction.
4. Choose White, Dark, or White + Dark.
5. Select the required reference MAT file(s).
6. Confirm spectral compatibility.
8. Inspect the corrected image and spectra.
9. Continue with other corrections if needed.
10. Use Restore Original to return to the uncorrected cube.
